This year's Challenge - Fly-UK 2013
The plan
"To Fly by Day and Socialise by Night"
Following the pattern of past years, we will meet up on the Friday for an evening meal and to meet old and new friends.
Saturday morning starts with a briefing and then the challenge begins! Within a week we hope to have dipped in and out of the Lakes, drifted through the islands on the spectacular west coast of Scotland (with an option to follow the magical Achnasheen valley for those that want to stay dry-side), visited John O'Groats, perhaps reaching Orkney, returned through the Cairngorms and down the east coast, across the Penenines to the Welsh coast and across the Bristol Channel, rounding Land's End and all before reaching our destination. Some may choose to visit Lundy or the Isle of Man; It's your choice!
There will be a route taking in the Outer Hebrides with an overnight stop on Sollas. However an alternative route staying on the mainland will be provided. So why not fly up the Bealach na Bà road to Applecross and take a low level flight through the Achnasheen Valley - subject to clearance by the Low Flight Booking cell if necessary, with its stunning scenery. If you are feeling adventurous there may also be opportunities to visit Orkney, Lundy and even Scilly.
As usual, some flexibility may be required to this plan, but if the weather allows we will reach both John O'Groats and Land's End before finishing at our destination airfield.
